Eastern Mediterranean Cruise – Part One

I realised today that I didn’t blog about my Cruise Ship experience! But I focussed more on the vlogs for my YouTube channel because it was more expressive. But I feel it is missing some of my thoughts going into it and even now, people still ask about it. The vlogs were short and sweet but I guess it wan’t enough..? My initial thoughts were NOT to go! I was kinda terrified of actually going on the ship because I watched Titannic, The MEG, Jaws and the thought of possible nausea had me shaken enough to decline the invite altogether. After seeing the ports we were going to dock and the places we get to explore, I started to rethink if I should really chicken out on a deal like this. Sat Venice (Italy) Sun Bari (Italy)Mon CruisingTue Pireaus/ Athens (Greece)Wed Katakolon/ Olympia (Greece)Thu Kotor (Montenegro)Fri Split (Croatia) It took a little bit of courage on my part but I HAD to go to these places! We decided to try out the Gautrain, for the first time, and it was a pretty awesome experience, apart from the hefty pricetag to the airport! We had some serious issues as our lugguage was not booked with our tickets through our agents. We almost missed our flight because the dragged out issues with resolving the problem. We literally looked like those passanges in the movies that run to their planes! It was probably my most stressful moment travelling. Anyway, we flew to Madrid, Spain. I watched a few movies on the plane as I couldn’t sleep on the plane, for some reason. I think I was still stressed out about the ship? When we landed in Madrid, we had some starbucks and a little snack before catching our flight to Venice, Italy. We then landed in Venice, took a bus to our hotel where we left our lugguage and went to get something to eat. We found a really nice halaal place, opposite our hotel, and the food was not only delicious but it was also affordable! It was pretty cold out but instead of staying in, we decided to hit the town. In 2016, the first time I went to Venice, we spend the entire day on the water, on boats, touring the islands but never experienced a gonadola ride. It was everything I hoped it would be, it was like experiencing the city as a true Venitian and we saw a bunch of homes and hotels along the ride. It’s amazing that a city like this, actually exists. We spoke to our guide about how much of a gift it is to have tourists always there to appreciate the beauty of his city. He told us about the good, humble life he lives with his family. He shared some interesting stories with us and if I hadn’t been careful I could have accepted his proposal to wed! LoL He was quite the charmer. We took some photos along the way and he also took some really good pics of us! I forgot to add how cold it became while the sun was setting and we ended up buying some fur scarves and ponchos just to save us from freezing. But I also didn’t want to ruin the photos so I stripped right before it was taken and then quickly put everything back on the minute the photo was taken. I reckon it was worth it. When the ride was over, we walked around and looked for the gelato shop we used to buy from when we were in Venice two years prior and we sadly couldn’t find it. But we found another one and we had two giant scoops of gelato in the icy weather because we couldn’t resist! Have you ever tried the lemon flavoured gelato in Italy? Trust me, it changes your life. LoL realising how dramatic that statement was. After walking around and shopping for random little things, we made our way back to the hotel. The bus ride was so packed because I’m pretty sure it was one of the last buses leaving the central side of Venice. We started talking about the crazy things we saw on the ride home, how full the bus was and yet people were squeezing themselves in, and just the cool, crazy life we all live. I had a good couple of butt-touches and shoves with people cramming themselves onto the bus. The bus driver giggled at the conversation a few times because we stood close to the exit door to make our quick escape when the time was right. Before we knew it, our time in Venice came to a close. We bought our memorabilia (snow globes) and headed to the port where we boarded our Costa Luminosa Cruise Ship. There was no turning back now! I was more nervous at this point and I think my mind made-believe I was getting nauseous but I doped up on anti-nausea pills and should be completely fine. You are more than welcome to watch my Venice vlog here. You will see my nerves in the video and also experience our quick stay in Venice in a more visual way.

Bonafide Events – Bucket List Adventures

I wanted to experience so many things in my life, because somehow not doing the same thing every weekend is the best thing ever! Growing up, I wanted to be a ton of stuff for the most random reasons ever! For example, bugs have always freaked me out, as much as I love nature, little insects is something I cannot get used to. I wanted to be a… *wait for it*…PESTBUSTER! haha Okay that was extreme but I’ve somehow decided that I don’t actually want to kill anything, regardless of how much of a pest they were, I couldn’t bring myself to kill anything. But I do have some cool things I want to try, like pottery! I know I am literally 84 years old with this one! But it would be something to try! I’ve also wanted to do adventurous things like skydiving or surfing and I’ve decided that I may not dedicate myself to a profession or a full-time hobby in any of these things, but atleast trying them, even once, could bring me some sort of satisfaction and closure. With this thought I’ve started doing a few really fun, awesome stuff and the best part is that there are others out there who are keen to try them with me. We have been on a few adventures already and I even created some vlogs for my YouTube channel which means it will forever be there for me to look back at these incredible memories I’ve created for myself. VLOG LINKS BELOW We tried out the HoneyDew Mazes and had the best time at the venue and having the girls and guys battle it out for who gets the most points. I have always wanted to be like Katy Perry, the OG Califonia Girl in roller skates, so we headed over to Roll Egoli with the family and had an absolute blast, and I have to add what a work out it actually was! I had ZERO makeup on by the end of it! We also took the family for some adventure golf in Fourways, but didn’t vlog it. The boys had an absolute blast! I am looking forward to the many adventures that awaits us this year. So many opportunities to experience things for the first time! The calendar for the events will be posted monthly, so we don’t miss out on anything!

Aunty Merle – The Musical – Joburg Theatre

What a fantastic production! I cannot say enough about how relatable this show is.. I may not be from Cape Town but being ‘coloured’ or ‘malay’ as we call it, it was as though it was based on our upbringing. There were so many things said in the dialogue of the show, that my family and friends use frequently and up until right now, I didn’t realise how funny it actually is! Marc Lottering was pretty sensational and all of the performers are so incredibly talented… I got chills a few times! I laughed out loud most of the time and upon leaving…we met a (caucasian) lady in the lift and she said “I’ve never wanted to be coloured, more than I do now!” I don’t know about you, but I think that was quite the statement! It pretty much sums up just how great the show was! I’m definitely taking my family to watch the show! It’s going to be showing at The Joburg Theatre for the next month, do yourself a favour and go and check it out. Also saw a bunch of old friends and family at the show and also met some new faces. I love times where we can interact with each other and create new memories. When we got back from the show I was trying out some ALIEN makeup looks because I’m sure we all know how obsessed I am with extra terrestrials!!! EXTRA being the operative word! I would like to create a few makeup looks in the coming months and add some tutorials to my YouTube channel. So keep an eye out for those if you’re keen to see me play around with some makeup.

Movie Premiere – 3 Days to go – Sandton City

I have always loved watching local movies because of the obvious relatable aspects. Three days before the film released in cinemas across the country, we had the pleasure of attending the premiere. The actors were all on the red carpet and we had the opportunity to snap photos with them, ask them any questions we may have had and really just enjoy in the celebrations on the films release, with the films cast and crew. The film had a great storyline and it was relatable on a ‘normal family drama’ sense but also pushing the boundaries of extremity. There were many moments and characters that stood out because you could relate but there were many things I felt played out exactly how I would assume they would should those things have happened in my family, but I cannot say I have ever experienced. There were a few things what I think would stand out in this film, that I never thought about before, like the cadarva being seen in so many of the scenes and the amount of time it was actually on screen. Or the dragged out scenes of the addictions in the film, but it was done in such a way that it invoked the emotions intended, beautifully. I also thought the quality of the picture of this film was really great!

Oskar Buzz – GreenBook – Ster Kinekor

If there was ever an opportunity for me to go to the Oscars, I would be there in a heartbeat! Even a themed party get’s me all excited to dress up and feel glamourous. I tried a few different looks this time, instead of wearing a dress and having my hair down, I opted to wear pants and a slicked-back low ponytail…I felt like a new woman! I felt so chic and glam in a whole different way than I’m used to. I also opted for completely nude makeup and as usual, no foundation! I’ve been going strong with face powder since November and my skin has completely changed. About the Oskar Buzz Experience… We arrived to a beautiful deck, glammed out with fairylights and there was a red carpet waiting for us to get our photos taken! There were some delicious snacks and drinks for us to enjoy and mingle with the other guests before the film started. Oh! they even had sushi, Yay! because I hadn’t had dinner yet. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia Green Book is a 2018 American biographic comedy drama film directed by Peter Farrelly. Set in 1962, the film is inspired by the true story of a tour of the Deep South between African-American classical and jazz pianist Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) and Tony Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen), an Italian- American bouncer, who served as Shirley’s driver and bodyguard. The film was written by Farrelly, Brian Hayes Currie and Vallelonga’s son, Nick Vallelonga, based on interviews with his father and Shirley, as well as letters his father wrote to his mother. The film is named after The Negro Motorist Green Book, a mid-20th century guidebook for African-American travellers written by Victor Hugo Green, to help them find motels and restaurants that would accept them. My thoughts… The film has been nominated for a bunch of awards and I can certainly see why! It was such a beautiful story and the way that it was told is honestly just ART. I always have so many mixed emotions watching films of this nature because on one hand I really like them, but on the other hand it kinda makes my hate people! And hate is a particulary strong word that I almost never use! I feel that, that invisible divide will always be within people and the thought of it always makes me sad. We have so many similarities and such few differences but that is what we choose to see. It is what stops us from true freedom. This might be a topic for another day so let me not het into it. In conclusion, I really loved the film.

Calum Scott #OnlyHuman Tour – JHB – South Africa

I’m always fascinated by Talent shows because of the rags to riches stories than comes with it. I also REALLY love music and the different, unique talents people have. I always question myself as to what I would even do if I were to enter a competition like that! Calum Scott is incredibly talented and has grown so insanely successful in what seems to be no time at all! Simon Cowell hit the Golden Buzzer for Calum when he auditioned on Britain’s Got Talent. Most people know this already, but he was visibly so nervous, as his sister auditioned as well and was rejected just before he went on. Even during his performance after the crown went absolutely crazy for him, he didn’t realise just how great his performance was. When it was announced that he was going to tour South Africa I knew I wanted to go. I was lucky enough to get media passes so I got to take my camera along. You’re welcome to check out my photos from the day HERE.

My Camera Gear + My Editing Software

I remember growing up, that I always loved taking photographs of pretty much everything. I think I take after my dad, who used to do videography for weddings and special occasions. I very clearly remember recording videos on my dads camera and making all sorts of videos with my sister. We used to do somewhat of an MTV Cribs (before cribs actually came out) and when we watched the first episode, we were mind-blown because we just wanted to talk about the cool, silly things we have in our rooms, what we ate… our pets and of course our rides.. which was just bicycles and roller-blades! I enjoy capturing moments that we one day want to look back on and remember it just as it was. It is somewhat of a time travel because from one picture, a stream of memories spring to mind. I am a self-proclaimed memory hoarder and I truly think that I am obsessed with capturing moments and often refer back to them. I bought my first professional camera, Canon 450D, a few years ago and I took literally millions of photos since. It’s a great entry level camera. I did take some time off after my hard drive crashed in the beginning of 2013 and I have spoken about this numerous times. I started shooting again and things have been going well. I hope to do a lot more shoots going forward. I swear by CANON, I simply love everything about the brand. My current goal is to get the Canon 5D Mark IV and even thought there are a bunch of other camera’s out there, that could possibly be better, I Really want this camera. I have been slowly saving towards getting it but it has a hefty price tag of 60K with just a kit lens. But this camera is super versatile and perfect for what I do. I am pretty much an outdoor person and the GoPro has always been a dream of mine, it also costs a pretty penny but it is so great for the best action shots in the game! I am so excited to finally own one! I bought literally ALL of the accessories I could find and haven’t even gotten around to trying all the different ones just yet. It is so compact and light and easy to travel with and really takes the best quality photos, even underwater. I also have two other action camera’s, a 4K I bought on WISH. And a Polaroid one I bought at GAME Department Store. They work really great and surprisingly lasted for years. The battery on the Polaroid one is a little sketchy and the 4K camera came with an extra battery and the cost was insanely cheap! Definately worth it, but the quality is not even close the immaculate quality of a GoPro. Also they require housing for underwater footage where my new Hero 7 doesn’t. With my memory hoarding tendencies, I started uploading more regularly to my YouTube channel as well and even started the daunting act of vlogging…yes! Video blogging! I walk around with a camera, recording my everyday life and the special things I do in a day. For this, I use my Canon G7x Mark II, which is currently the best vlogging camera on the market and you will see a multitude of professional YouTubers using this camera to vlog with. The quality is impeccable and the compact size is super easy to move around with. It is chic and takes quality videos and photographs. Truly a game changer. Also worth the cost, which I think is pretty reasonable for the quality you receive. I have a few more camera accessories as well, like selfie lights for my phone or those little zoom lenses you can attached to your phone which is a ton of fun and if you do not want to spend money on expensive, professional gear, it is a lot of fun to try out. You certainly will not be getting high-res quality imagines with those phone lenses but if you have a decent phone camera, things could get a little interesting. At the end of the day, if you have a love for photography or a desire to capture moments, it truly does not require fancy gear. It is your view and vision coming to life and whether you are taking the photo on a cheap phone with a 2 Megapixel camera, it will still be worth the memory. The important part is that you find your happiness and live the adventure you wish to live. I edit my videos on WonderShare on PC or even use app’s on my phone. I swear by my rule… Good raw photo = less editing… and less is certainly more! I am hoping to switch over to Apple because Final Cut Pro and Apple software in general, has the best quality editing tools and apparently user-friendly software for blogging and vlogging. I hope to only improve going forward and I hope that you are still enjoying my content because I enjoy creating them. It is always fun looking back on the many memories I’ve created over the years and just how much I’ve grown. This is ultimately why I create them, but I am super grateful when you guys watch my videos or read my blogs! So Thank You. Hope there will be many more!

Pre-screening of Peppermint – Film Review

I love movies where there is a female lead, that is not a damsel in distress, waiting for some prince to sweep her off her feet and ‘save her’. Jennifer Garner is not someone I would think about when I envision a kick-ass slay kween, because she always has those girl-next-door movie roles that kinda makes you fall in love with her. Yes even the woman.
But she certainly proved that she is a lot more versatile than we thought. I don’t want to go all political and make this post drift on into a deep, dark hole of how there is no justice anymore. So let me just say this, this movie makes me want to go rouge and fix what is broken! Take justice into my hands and make things right!
If you haven’t seen the trailer, check it out here.
Here is a also a short video from the pre-screening I attended at Hyde Park.

Blog, Life, Wishful Thinker

I finally took a dance class! 5, 6, 7, 8!

Everyone who knows me, pretty much knows how much I love to dance. I feel the music and I move involentary! Before my Italian cruise, Costa Luminosa, I thought maybe some Latin dancing would do me some good. Got my girlfriends together and we went looking for a studio to give it a go.

It was a ton of fun, but we definately need a lot more before we are floating across the floor as we should be.
Please watch my short vlog here.

Special Blog Moments of 2018

I’ve started this blog platform in April 2017 and prior to that, you all know the story about how my blogging career  started so not going to get into it again. But it’s always a struggle starting something new, because you don’t know how people will react.  A lot of my friends, that follow my online journey was taken aback when I changed over from 80sJoziGirl to Bonafide Blog, but I feel that the change was necessary and once people got used to it, it was received well. Thanks again to my loyal friends and followers!!!  Now for some of the cool moments that happened with my blog this year… I was overjoyed to find out that was the RubyBox Blogger of the Month in October! That certainly was an awesome moment for me.    I was also recently selected as one the nominees of SA Blogger Awards for the following categories: Best Lifestyle Blog Best Photography Blog Had my first radio interview with the amazing Howard Feldman on Chai FM. Made my first Magazine debut. It was really cool and surreal to see myself in a magazine. A photo that was taken at one of the events I attended. I received a bunch of messages from my family and friends when they saw it. It was a lovely surprise.  Had some cool meetings and interviews. Felt a sense of accomplishment to have been able to meet some of the incredible people I either used to listen to, growing up, or that is making waves recently.  These are only a few of the amazing things I’ve done this year and to see something that I started on my own, flourish, is truly an amazing feeling. I also say that, not to gloat or brag but in true appreciation for the moments that made me feel just a little more special this year. I hope that you are celebrating your accomplishments from this past year and looking forward to the many more I am praying we will all have.  I wish you all the most incredible year ahead and that you will have many more moments filled with love and joy. I am looking forward to learning and experiencing more amazing things in the days that lie ahead. I am going to manifest doing more and exploring more because with experience comes wisdom and a zest for life that you cannot replace with anything else.  I am not somebody who makes resolutions but I do set goals for myself and aim to make teeny tiny steps until I achieve those goals. This year I made a vision board and a whole lot more goals. Some goals I’ve set have not been met in the last few years and I am not going to mindlessly put the same goals on a board hoping to miraculously obtain in,this year, I am actually going to make things happen.  When we realise how much time and effort we waste, we would take things a little more seriously.  I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all well and know that YOU need to believe in Yourself and in your goals before you will find yourself on the way to the finish line.
