The 71st annual Cannes Film Festival – Interviewing Crystal Donna Roberts via Skype

The 2018 Festival de Cannes is held 8-19 May and the stars pulled out all the stops to wow the audiences around the world from the beautiful Cannes. The Red Carper was looking absolutely breath-taking and we were lucky enough to interview the lovely South African Actress, Crystal Donna Roberts who is in attendance at the Festival for the first time, for her role in Krotoa (2017).

A film about “A feisty, bright, young 11 year old girl is removed from her close-knit Khoi tribe to serve Jan van Riebeeck, her uncle’s trading partner. She is brought into the first Fort established by the Dutch East India Company in 1652. There she grows into a visionary young woman who assimilates the Dutch language and culture so well that she rises to become an influential interpreter for van Riebeeck who became the first Governor of the Cape Colony. As such Krotoa ends up being rejected by her own Khoi people and destroyed by the Dutch when she tries to find the middle way between the two cultures.”

I’m sure you have been seeing all the celebrities from around the world, posting pictures of their looks at the festival and even some funny meme’s floating around on social media. Anybody, who is anybody, in the film industry, is there to join in on all the festivities and bumping into your favorite actors is a definite possibility!

I sat in front of my laptop, dressed up a tiny bit, touched up my hair and makeup and I was ready for my Skype interview with Crystal. It is always a worry not knowing exactly how an interview will go because you never know the vibe of the person you’re interviewing. But the minute the network stabilized and Crystal came on screen, the entire vibe was like chatting to an old friend.

She answered the list of questions I had, in detail and threw in how excited she was to be at the Cannes Film Festival! Attending the Festival has been something she dreamt of, as a little girl and she described the surreal feeling of it actually happening right now. She was lucky enough to also be dressed by a local designer, founded in Cape Town and she looking nothing short of sensational!

We chatted for about 20 minutes and I can’t help but be over-the-moon excited and proud of Crystal for her incredible achievements in her growing career.

She is a strong, independent and of course, talented individual who will certainly do incredible things in the future.
