Cape Agulhas – Our first wedding anniversary- August 2025

The year we spent together as husband and wife went by way quicker than I could have imagined. We needed to do something special and Saadiq grew up going to Cape Agulhas every year, the southern most tip of Africa, and I have never been. We thought it would be a special place to go for a few days.

We also done something that I remember only ever doing as a kid, fishing! And I remembered how much I didn’t enjoy it. But learnt very quickly that sea fishing is VERY different to fishing in rivers, dams and lakes. I actually really enjoyed it, and hubby made it extra special, buying me my own fishing rod and everything we needed, and would you believe it, I caught a fish… a Steenbras?!

We stayed at a lovely B&B called Ocean View House which had the most incredible views of the ocean and the sound of waves right across our window was exceptional. We met the owners when we checked in and had a very chatty breakfast with them every morning. Agulhas is one of those quint little places in the movies where the famous person always goes to the falls in love with the little town and the few people living their best lives. The people running or walking along beautiful winding roads, the views, the few shops and just the quiet little town. Running into the same people and the market or along our walks.

We went walking on the beaches, picking up pebbles and shells and we went fishing every chance we got, we both caught some fish and just enjoyed the quiet, beauty that is Cape Agulhas. We went for massages and went to eat at the BEST fish and chips place EVERRRRR, L’Agulhas! Seriously, do yourself a favour and go get a combo box from them. We’ve been back every time we take a trip down there and we’ve never been disappointed.

I’m usually someone who wants to try different places and one of the main reasons I moved to Cape Town was to experience all there is, there’s just so many things to do, but I simply didn’t get enough and we’ve been there three times already. Every time was different, every time was special in it’s own way and I definitely think we will be back before long again. To enjoy the quiet, the beauty and the food, in she Allah.
We remembered to apply sunscreen every day because we had the most lovely weather during our times there. Technically Block is the best brand I’ve tried in a long time, not stickiness and not oily finish… it goes on, somewhat absorbs into my skin and it doesn’t feel pasty or anything.

Travelling is such an exciting and meaningful way to learn more about your partner. Travelling and experiencing life with him has been all of life’s treasures bundled into one, the good, the learning and the resilience. I think the saying is the good, the bad and the ugly, but I think we learn through the bad, and we stay resilient through the ugly. Marriage is exactly that, with the quiet surprises, or the difficult conversations or the quiet getting to know yourself and each other. It’s all that and so much more.
