My Farmer Girl Era
For as long as I can remember, I had a dream of being self-sufficient. From growing my own food to using natural resources for electricity and simply living off-grid. Though that dream is a far reach from my starting point right now, I have managed to start growing my own fruit, vegetables and herbs.
I live in the suburbs, in a townhouse setting, as you might recall from my previous post, and my house has small area from private gardening, but is accessible to the homeowners around me. I decided on starting a fruit tree garden and so far we’re planted:
- a banana tree,
- a peach tree,
- a plum tree,
- a red grape tree,
- a white grape tree
- and two blue-berry trees.

In the front courtyard, at my kitchen door entrance, I have a few potted plants and a flower box with:
- Potted strawberries
- Broccoli
- Spinach
- Peppers
- Eggplant
- Lettuce
- Spring Onions
- I’ve also planted a pineapple head, so we’ll see if anything happens!

As well as some herbs:
- Coriander
- Basil
- Oregano
- Thyme
- Mint
- and Chives

There is a little side corridor on the back entrance of the house and I have a few plant boxes as well. Growing:
- Spinach
- Beetroot
- Broccoli
- Peppers
- Eggplant
- Carrots
- Tomatoes
- Lettuce
Just listing this blows my mind, because I’ve had several cactus plants growing up, and I’ve managed to kill them somehow, so it’s been a crazy work-in-progress with keeping all of these alive, and grateful to have harvested quite a bit of produce and cooked with a lot of these as well.
The aroma of the herbs and the flavors of the fruits and vegetables have been extraordinarily different from store-bought produce. The fruits trees that we planted haven’t bloomed yet but praying that in a few months/ years, for some, that they will yield in abundance, Insha Allah.
We’ve had quite a bit of strawberries and blueberries this past season, and the herbs and veggies have grown like crazy so super grateful to have been able to share the produce with my neighbors, family and friends.
I also post quite a bit of content to my social media platforms, so please do check it out and please leave me some tips, tricks and any advice you could share to help in this journey of mine, please do leave a comment on either the blog, or on my socials. You can find me @tazzadams on basically any social media platform.
Looking forward to sharing gardening stories with you all. Xx
