My first staycay after quarantine – Mount Amanzi – Haartebeestpoort

I didn’t realize how much I needed to get away. After months of adapting to a new role at work and being on a constant learning path, I was exhausted. In every aspect of the word. I knew I had a lot of work, and editing videos and photographs for Bonafide. I was still not completely ready to take a break.

But I needed it. I took my laptop along with me, thinking that I will be editing and creating during my time away from home, but as luck would have it… being in the wildness and experiencing the fresh air after literally being cooped up at home, has been an eye-opener and a true gift to the soul! Not to sound dramatic or anything! The only technology I touched over the past week, was my GoPro, because it was the first time being free and out since last year!

A solid break away from work and online meetings rejuvenates our bodies in ways that can only be experienced first-hand. Usually with my vacations, we are always up early and out and about, on the search for adventure, eager to experience a thrill and the rush of adrenalin! This vacay was a little different though, and much needed.

My body alarm always wakes me around 8am. I wake to make breakfast and then shower and it’s out the door, usually, but this time, after breakfast, we would chill, chat and well… more chilling. We would only leave our chalet after noon. Head to the pools and walk around the resort or just lounge be the pools.

The resort had great social distancing in place and it felt safe and comfortable being out and about. Almost felt normal. I think it will take a little bit of getting used to being on vacay, but you can tell everybody was stoked to finally be out again.

There is an indoor-heated pool, so after dinner we would head back down for a night swim as the pools only close at 22:00. We’d then head back home for a shower, a snack and some more chilling. The next day we wake up, and repeat.

We also went to Chameleon Village, which was nostalgic in itself. We used to go there often as kids, it was always an attraction when staying in the Magaliesburg/ Haartebeespoort areas.

It felt really good to just get away and enjoy some time away from the city and more importantly out of meetings and technology.

Hope you all remember to take a break soon, if you haven’t already.
