Glam X Cresta

Events that are specific to empowering and celebrating woman always inspires me to do more and to create more. With Glamour x Cresta I was truly moved by the thought that went behind every aspect of the morning. We were spoiled with so many special things, from the minute we walked in. Photo By: @Jean_Pantalon There were countless opportunities to glam out and feel pretty! We received some vouchers to keep our pretty going even after the event was over. I plan to use my complimentary makeup session for an event or party during the festive season. I was blown away by the hair iron that ‘blessed’ me with the most stunning effortless waves! Having long hair, I have tried pretty much most of the hair styles, irons, tongs but I was like a hippie mermaid and I simply loved it! . On that hippie trend,I’m sure you know I love, we made FLOWER CROWNS! With real, beautiful flowers and then got our hair done, and touched up our makeup, and then had some wonderful love music while sipping on some delicious juice and took a dozen selfies and photos at all the picturesque places around the beautiful venue, Plaka – Cresta Shopping Centre. There was a magazine cover booth, that I felt was so incredibly creative and even though the photos looked kind of like a potato in a box. I still loved it! The venue is exceptionally aesthetic and Greek inspired and it was simply stunning. We took full advantage of the ring light and the makeup artists, that hooked us up with some contour and highlighting! When I got home, I was still feeling beautiful and loved my flower crown, I ended taking a bunch of selfies in my room, even put the effort it to changing my outfit! A huge thank you to the organisers and the wonderful people I met at the event and for all the spoils!

The Nutcracker – Film Review

The Nutcracker hasn’t been one of my favourite stories growing up, but when I saw the trailer, I had to see it! I went to the pre-screening at Ster Kinekor and I think the graphics were amzing. The film did seem to have a particularly slow pace, but I think it’s because it’s not like those other stories where there is so much more of a storyline to fit into a two hour film but I think they told the story perfectly.
They chose the perfect lead roles, especially Keira Knightley, who was born for these roles!

Genre: Fantasy/Adventure
Rating: TBD
Release Date: Nov. 2, 2018
Cast: Keira Knightley, Mackenzie Foy, Eugenio Derbez, Matthew Macfadyen,
Richard E. Grant, Sergei Polunin, Jayden Fowora-Knight, Omid
Djalili, Jack Whitehall, Meera Syal, Ellie Bamber, Misty Copeland, with Helen
Mirren and Morgan Freeman.
Director: Lasse Hallström
Producers: Mark Gordon, Larry Franco
Executive producers: Sara Smith, Lindy Goldstein
Screenplay by: Ashleigh Powell and Simon Beaufoy
All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift
from her late mother. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman)
annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious
parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice
and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets.
Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to
retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar
Plum Fairy and featuring a special performance by Misty Copeland, Disney’s new holiday feature film “The
Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is directed by Lasse Hallström and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic
tale. In cinemas on Nov. 2, 2018.
Abbreviated description:
When Clara finds herself in a strange and mysterious parallel world that’s home to Land of Snowflakes, Land
of Flowers and Land of Sweets, she must brave the ominous Fourth Realm and its ruling tyrant, Mother
Ginger, to return harmony to the unstable world.
 E.T.A. Hoffmann penned “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” in 1816. Alexandre Dumas Père’s
subsequent adaptation, “The Nutcracker,” was set to Tchaikovsky’s music and the resulting ballet was
commissioned in 1891 by director of the Russian Imperial Theatres. Premiering a week before Christmas
in 1892, the fairytale ballet—which takes place on Christmas Eve—became a holiday tradition around the
world. The New York City Ballet first performed George Balanchine’s “Nutcracker” in 1954.

Pre-screening of Peppermint – Film Review

I love movies where there is a female lead, that is not a damsel in distress, waiting for some prince to sweep her off her feet and ‘save her’. Jennifer Garner is not someone I would think about when I envision a kick-ass slay kween, because she always has those girl-next-door movie roles that kinda makes you fall in love with her. Yes even the woman.
But she certainly proved that she is a lot more versatile than we thought. I don’t want to go all political and make this post drift on into a deep, dark hole of how there is no justice anymore. So let me just say this, this movie makes me want to go rouge and fix what is broken! Take justice into my hands and make things right!
If you haven’t seen the trailer, check it out here.
Here is a also a short video from the pre-screening I attended at Hyde Park.

Schwartzkopf Spoilt Us – Saxon Hotel

I was invited to attend the Swartzkopf launch of Long-lasting Improved Hair Quality Gliss product: The revolution in Hair Repair.

The packaging it so beautiful and the scent is best described as Out of the World! We went through all of the benefits of these products and how deeply nourishing it is, how it penetrates the hair and the hair bed for the best possible results. They destroyed one of those myths that most adverts want us to believe, that their product can magically reconnect split ends… nothing can! But this product promises to protect hair from splitting in the first place.
The best thing you can do for healthy hair, is to live a healthy lifestyle, look after your hair with good products and limiting styling damages. I am so keen to try these products and upon my return from my wonderful yet, chilly vacation, I came home to a gorgeous package with these incredible products so I will be using these from today!

I am so excited to try these products! Just look at it

I finally took a dance class! 5, 6, 7, 8!

Everyone who knows me, pretty much knows how much I love to dance. I feel the music and I move involentary! Before my Italian cruise, Costa Luminosa, I thought maybe some Latin dancing would do me some good. Got my girlfriends together and we went looking for a studio to give it a go.

It was a ton of fun, but we definately need a lot more before we are floating across the floor as we should be.
Please watch my short vlog here.

Special Blog Moments of 2018

I’ve started this blog platform in April 2017 and prior to that, you all know the story about how my blogging career  started so not going to get into it again. But it’s always a struggle starting something new, because you don’t know how people will react.  A lot of my friends, that follow my online journey was taken aback when I changed over from 80sJoziGirl to Bonafide Blog, but I feel that the change was necessary and once people got used to it, it was received well. Thanks again to my loyal friends and followers!!!  Now for some of the cool moments that happened with my blog this year… I was overjoyed to find out that was the RubyBox Blogger of the Month in October! That certainly was an awesome moment for me.    I was also recently selected as one the nominees of SA Blogger Awards for the following categories: Best Lifestyle Blog Best Photography Blog Had my first radio interview with the amazing Howard Feldman on Chai FM. Made my first Magazine debut. It was really cool and surreal to see myself in a magazine. A photo that was taken at one of the events I attended. I received a bunch of messages from my family and friends when they saw it. It was a lovely surprise.  Had some cool meetings and interviews. Felt a sense of accomplishment to have been able to meet some of the incredible people I either used to listen to, growing up, or that is making waves recently.  These are only a few of the amazing things I’ve done this year and to see something that I started on my own, flourish, is truly an amazing feeling. I also say that, not to gloat or brag but in true appreciation for the moments that made me feel just a little more special this year. I hope that you are celebrating your accomplishments from this past year and looking forward to the many more I am praying we will all have.  I wish you all the most incredible year ahead and that you will have many more moments filled with love and joy. I am looking forward to learning and experiencing more amazing things in the days that lie ahead. I am going to manifest doing more and exploring more because with experience comes wisdom and a zest for life that you cannot replace with anything else.  I am not somebody who makes resolutions but I do set goals for myself and aim to make teeny tiny steps until I achieve those goals. This year I made a vision board and a whole lot more goals. Some goals I’ve set have not been met in the last few years and I am not going to mindlessly put the same goals on a board hoping to miraculously obtain in,this year, I am actually going to make things happen.  When we realise how much time and effort we waste, we would take things a little more seriously.  I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all well and know that YOU need to believe in Yourself and in your goals before you will find yourself on the way to the finish line.

A family Outing – Pines Resort – Krugersdorp

If you ever need a little getaway, to escape the city and go on a waterslide and lounge at the pool, Pines Resort is the place for you. It is a great little hidden gem about 45minutes out of Johannesburg. It is a quick drive to complete peace and ofcourse Summer Vacay Vibes!

Not too many people know about this place so you’re bound to have a great time that is not overly crowded with fake-holiday makers. We had an absolute blast when my family and I decided to go for the day.
I think my short little vlog will share my experience a lot better than me trying to explain how much fun we had.
So please do watch it HERE.
Hopefully I will see you the next time I’m there 🙂

A Bloggers Evening at Moyo – Zoo Lake – JHB

There is something about an ambiance that makes a place that much more memorable, and paired with something close to home, is more than I can ask for. Moyo, Zoo Lake is one of those hidden gems located in the heart of one of the busiest areas in Northern Johannesburg, Emmeretia.
When I think about Zoo Lake, I think about the many family picnics, the fun doggy-day-outs and the romantic strolls along the waterside. During the summertime, Emmerentia, was also the place we would go to, for a braai and chill with friends or to take a boat ride out while catching some serious rays.
Moyo is a restuarant that I also thought had a very authentic african background and my eyes were opened to the cuisine they offer. For those that are not particular adventurous when it comes to food, but would like to try some authenic food, they’re perfect. It is always a struggle to find a restuarant that would cater to my halaal/ vegetarian/ pescaterian needs. Most places do not offer a large vegetarian/ seafood option but I was pleasantly surprised that I had my fill at the intimate bloggers evening on the outside deck, overlooking Jozi, surrounded by twinkling fairylights and enjoying light conversation with like-minded individuals.

The best part of the evening for me, was the warm, family feel that was very present throughout the restaurant. It is quite unheard of, that staff, in this industry, would remain in a set place for too long but with Moyo, there are staff members that have been a part of the Moyo family for decades! Respect certainly goes a long way…

Treat people with love, care and respect, and their loyalty will be unwavering!

Had a strange experience – Nix & Tee – Dainfern- JHB

With it being event season, I’ve been attending a bunch of events and with that comes a little bit of stress to create content, and publish it in a preferred period of time. I’ve been having a little of a tough time sleeping because of my inconsistent hours and with all that’s going on.
I was invited to Nix & Tee, which is a lovely wellness clinic where they have some of the coolest tech treatments I’ve ever seen. At a wellness spa, I am all for massages and topical treatments because I’m comfortable knowing what to expect but with this extremely savvy wellness clinic it is certainly not something I thought I needed, until I actually got there.
I was a little apprehensive because some of the wellness procedures, I’ve read about online, are a little invasive. They offered me a Detoxify, Revive and Destress treatment which takes about 30 minutes. They booked me for one hour so they walked me through some of the other treatments as well.

The Wellness Clinic
The aesthetics of the clinic is simple, chic and very pleasing to the eye. It’s a great place to retreat to and the colour scheme is soothing. Everything is well-lit and ‘clean’. They have a number of great additions and will still be growing the ‘team’ to offer even more convenient treatments in one place. They also have a very tech-savvy set-up with all the devices and gadgets they have for us.

They have a large menu of treatments available, from cellulite treatments to rejuvenating treatments that we don’t always realise we need. It is a little medical and technical for me to try to explain it in the amount of detail it deserves so please do check out the website Here, if you’re interested in learning more and visiting them.
The Experience : Detoxify, Revive and Destress
My treatment was so funny. It is like a giant pants that you climb into, and a machine blows air into the pants and then it feels like a ‘squashing’ massage  from your feet all the way to above your waist. It was an unusual feeling, but not painful at all. I drank quite a bit of water before and after the treatment but, and this is probably an overshare, but I had the longest, most satisfying wee of my entire life! LoL! The therapist did mention that because it is a detox, I may go to the loo.. but yo! I didn’t expect that at all.
Thereafter we talked through some of the other treatments and they took me to “The Chair” now this is where it gets a little strange..
They have a ‘feminine’ treatment, well I’m pretty sure, men are also able to use the chair.. but if you were to sit on the chair for 30 minutes, it is like doing thousands of kegel exercises in a really short amount of time. I sat on the chair to gain an understanding of the sensation for about 2 minutes, and it’s like a electric pulse that I’m sure you’re meant to get used to after a while, but I thought it was a little strange.
I love their high-tech approach and the very unique treatments they offer that will provide you with some of the best wellness treatments, especially for woman in Johannesburg.
Do yourself a favour and pay them a visit.

I was locked in a room with strangers! – Hint Hunt – Illovo

When I got the invite to experience Hint Hunt. I was initially not sure if I wanted to go. It was from a new PR company and it talks about escaping the norm and getting locked into a room with strangers and trying to get out! Now look… if you’re a little bit weirder than I am, you might actually be intrigued. But I watched all the SAW movies and getting locked up in a room trying to escape from a killer is what was playing over in my mind the entire time.

To make a long story short, call me brave, or call me stupid… but I decided to go and try it out! They have a few branches and I got to experience the one in Illovo, Gauteng.

Hint Hunt originally started overseas and the South African founders thought it would be an amazing experience in South Africa and I am certainly very excited about it. It challenges you intellectually and I’m sure you’ve also played it out in your mind, if you were ever kidnapped, if you were savvy enough to escape and win your freedom.
Let’s cut to the fun bits…
We were divided into three groups and literally locked in a room. There are also different themes and we were in the one, where it’s like a private investigator type setting where a ‘murder’ occurred. The figure of a person was taped to the floor and everything. I think we had a quick start and found little clues within the room. In the end… we were about a few minutes away from actually escaping when our time ran out.
Needless to say I was pretty bummed that we didn’t escape on our own, but our guide showed us just how close we actually were to getting out. While we were in the room, we could hear the echoes and cheers from the other teams who were also reaching milestones throughout the process. Which inspired us to push even further with each cheer.
The success rate of the actual rooms we all got to experience was only about 40% so we are all pretty chaffed with ourselves for getting so close.
It is honestly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had! I wanted to try again immediately when the room was unlocked for us. But there was more fun in store for all of us.

We had some snacks and drinks and then played a few nerve-wrecking rounds of Minute-To-Win-It and I haven’t laughed so hard, as I did with the challenges. It was fun for everyone and you could certainly pick up who the competitive ones were or those ones who you should probably not play 30Seconds with LOL
Overall I had an absolute blast and I even managed to record some clips from my amazing time at the Hint Hunt studio in Illovo. If you would like to check it out, click HERE.
