The Script – Freedom Tour – South Africa
You know the feeling you get when an artist literally sings the words you think about as though they were written for you? Well the first time I heard The Script, it was like every song spoke to me. The beats of each track beat like my heart inside my chest, sometimes slow and steady and within a moment, at the brink of destruction!
Somehow singing along to the songs at the concert, at the Sun Arena in Pretoria, it took me back to the first time I heard a Script song. Must have been ‘Break Even’ that took me to another place entirely! When they came on stage and started performing, everyone just jumped to their feet as though they were ordered to do so!
This was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been privileged to have attended. The band literally must have touched every single person in the arena. There were so many times during the show when the members of the band leaped off the stage and somehow managed to run, climb and jump into every nook and cranny to go and mingle with fans! I’ve never seen anything like it before and I’ve been to quite a number of rock concerts!
At one stage Danny was on the upper level of the arena and fans ran from all the way on the right hand side to all the way on the left hand side just to grab and touch this insane rock-star! There were so many moments where the stage was completely empty because the performance was all around us. Every time he jumped off stage it was like I was making a silent prayer while screaming at the top of my lungs just for him to pass by the middle aisle so we could get a hug, a hand-shake, a selfie… anything!
I have never seen an arena light up the way that it did during their performance of RAIN when the band asked that we all shine our phone torches to basically create our own galaxy! It was nothing short of Majestic! It was so surreal being there with them in South Africa, again. The band pays a visit to South Africa every couple of years and even recorded their hit song Superhero’s right here in Alexander township in Johannesburg, South Africa.
One of the highlights from last night was opening with the choir from our very own city and a montage of what freedom means to people across the world. It is such a powerful message to realise that we all yearn for a sense of freedom. Sometimes it means freedom to love, freedom to speak up… freedom is something special to each of us. Whether we just want freedom to feel whatever we want to for whoever we want to.
There were thousands of people in attendance and whenever a crowd sings in harmony with an artist it sends shivers down my spine, it takes you to a magical place when you almost forget everything, but the words to the song.
All I can say is THANK YOU, to The Script for coming back to SA and for writing incredible music, to my amazing PR for hooking me up with tickets to enjoy one of my ultimate favorite bands of all time because I remember spending all my money on concerts over the years and with a lot of hard work, I get to enjoy these things without breaking the bank!
Thought it would be cool to share this throwback photo of me from the last Script concert I attended in Johannesburg.
I love than an Irish Rock band from Dublin is able to join thousands of people all around the world in the true and universal language of music! They have always said, and maintained that they do not tour and make music for the fame or the paycheck but because of the LOVE OF MUSIC and you know what? You absolutely feel that love and sincerity in their lyrics and their presence!
Here is their website, listen to their songs, feel what I feel because it is about sharing the love and creating a world of freedom!
